A COLUMN-BEARING LION BY LUPO DI FRANCESCO
3D Graphics for Cultural Heritage, University of Pisa
This site has been created to present my project for the 3D acquisition of a marble column-bearing lion from the fourteenth century, executed by Lupo di Francesco for the pulpit of San Michele in Borgo in Pisa and now at the Museo di San Matteo.
The acquisition technique I chose to make the 3D model of this sculpture was Dense Stereo Matching, which uses specific software for a three-dimensional digital reconstruction starting with an ordinary set of photographs.
Dense Stereo Matching is a 3D acquisition method offering a number of significantly advantageous benefits, as it is inexpensive, automatic, fast, suitable for the reconstruction of objects of various sizes and accessible to inexpert users, making it ideal for my project.
